There are many ways to reach the Olympic Peninsula, depending on where you are traveling from. Below are some of the routes most commonly used by people visiting from Seattle, other East Sound areas, or out-of-state and international travelers who land at SeaTac International Airport. Coming from SeaTac International Airport Travelers have two very different options when choosing how they would like to travel from SeaTac to Port Ludlow and the Olympic Peninsula. One route will require a ferry ride across the Puget Sound, and the other can be driven from start to finish. Using the Washington State Ferries: Leaving SeaTac travel Airport on I-5 Northbound, travel to exit 164B. This is the 4th Ave. and the Safeco field exit. At light take a right onto 4th Ave., then go one block to Royal Brougham and turn right. Travel 4 or 5 blocks (driving between Safeco field and the Seahawk stadium) ferry exit or to Alaskan Way on the waterfront. Both will work then take another right onto Alaskan Way or ferry exit. The Ferry Terminal is about 1.2 miles north. Look for overhead signage. There is a special left hand turn lane specifically for vehicle traffic into the toll plaza, which is strictly for vehicles and occupants boarding the ferry. At this point you can either walk or drive onto the ferry headed across the Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island. Your other option is to travel south around the Puget Sound. Doing this will likely not be any quicker, but you can travel on your own time table. However, if you’ve never ridden a Ferry before, I highly recommend it. The views of Seattle from the water are spectacular. This route will take you south along I-5 to WA-16 and over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. WA-16 turns into WA-3. Follow signage to Hood Canal Bridge and follow directions above from WA-3 to Port Ludlow. Approximate distance is 85 miles with a 2 hour travel time. Click here for the Seattle-Bainbridge Island Ferry Schedule Upon arriving at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal you will drive straight out of the terminal onto WA-305. This highway will take you through Bainbridge Island, then through Poulsbo. After passing through Poulsbo, you need to turn right onto WA-3 North. (While in Poulsbo please stay in the right lane as the freeway entrance comes up quickly) Follow this highway all the way to the Hood Canal Bridge. Take the left onto the Hood Canal Bridge which becomes WA-104. Cross the Hood Canal. Follow WA-104, take a right at WA-19 the Port Townsend, Port Ludlow turn. Then take another right turn at Oak Bay Road. The beautiful winding road will take you to the heart of Port Ludlow and Coldwell Banker. Click here for the Edmonds-Kinston Ferry Schedule When traveling from areas north of Seattle, your best option is to take the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry. This passenger and auto ferry will transport you across the Puget Sound and into Kitsap County, only a short driving distance away from the Olympic Peninsula. All you have to do once exiting the ferry is to go straight, you will be on WA-104 and follow it . Keep an eye out for signs, and don’t miss the right hand turn right after the Texaco gas station. Signage says WA-104 to Port Gamble. After passing through the historic little town of Port Gamble, take a right turn onto the Hood Canal Bridge, which is WA-104. Follow WA-104, take a right at WA-19 the Port Townsend, Port Ludlow right turn. Then take another right turn at Oak Bay Road, with Port Ludlow signage. The beautiful winding road will take you directly to the heart of Port Ludlow and Coldwell Banker Forrest Aldrich. Click here for a street map and directions from Kingston to Port Ludlow Welcome! However, The Goodwin Aviation Co. does provide charter flights from Jefferson County to most cities in Washington or Oregon as well as scenic overflights of the Olympic Peninsula.
